Why a Microschool?
We embrace our small size!
EXPLORE Learning is a microschool for many great reasons. The 1:6 maximum teacher-to-student ratio forges relationships between the children and their educational therapist (teacher) that empower mediated learning and reciprocity through educational therapy. We are able to quickly change curriculum, teaching interventions, and executive function strategies to meet the needs of the students. The classroom furniture is on wheels! Our mobile "thinking studios" allow our students to stretch and move about the room to learn. Our trained faculty can create, collaborate, and share information to bring the best tools and creative ideas into our thinking spaces.

Educational Therapy
Our small size allows us to integrate educational therapy techniques in the classroom to strengthen reading, writing, spelling, and math skills.

Educational therapy is not tutoring; it teaches “how to think” in contrast to “what to think” by addressing the underlying causes of learning failure through research-backed educational therapy.
The goal is to teach and practice “how-to” strategies through specific tasks during skilled, one-on-one, or small group-mediated sessions. Through reciprocal engagement, students gain confidence to become stronger independent learners.

These explicit, systematic interventions target these areas:

Cognitive: Thinking processes, reasoning, reflecting, attaching meaning, remembering, understanding, and evaluating.

Perception: Accurately receiving and processing sensory information (input), especially from visual and auditory sources, for learning, storage, and retrieval.

Emotional: Changing students’ thinking about their learning ability impacts relationships with others and how they interact with the world that God has created.
Academics: Teaching strategies to enhance “how to learn” by establishing strong executive functioning skills, increasing accountability, building competencies, and improving processing speed to make accessing the curriculum more effective.
EXPLORE Some MORE!
We encourage the students to marvel at God's creation and view each day as a new learning adventure!

We hope to explore hiking trails together, learn how to make ice cream, bake bread, dig in the garden, experiment with gyroscopes and magnets, participate in private music lessons, and enjoy destination learning opportunities--just to name a few!
